Who we are
Wake County Senior Games (WCSG) began in 1989 with a desire to promote fitness, friendship and well-being for people 50 years of age and older.
Sanctioned by the North Carolina Senior Games Inc., we are one of the largest of the 53 local games in the state both geographically and in participation. The athletic, performing and visual arts events provide a forum to meet new people, build community, enjoy healthy competition, express your creativity and most importantly - have fun.
The events are held in April and May each year. Individuals compete for awards within their own gender and age categories: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+. Typically the top three winners (medalists) in each event by age and gender are eligible to compete in the North Carolina Senior Games (NCSG) State Finals each fall. Medalists from the NCSG State Finals are eligible to compete in the National Senior Games that occur every two years.
More than 30 individual and team sporting events -such as tennis, golf, bowling, basketball, swimming, cornhole, pickleball, cycling and track and field - are offered, as well as competition in the visual, literary, heritage and performing arts. All events take place in and around Wake County, and the event season typically spans the months of April and May.
There are several coordinating parks & recreation agencies that help bring the games to life each year. For the 2025 season, this includes: City of Raleigh, Town of Garner, Town of Cary, Town of Apex, Town of Fuquay-Varina, Town of Holly Springs, City of Knightdale, Town of Morrisville, and the Town of Rolesville.

Sportsmanlike conduct of everyone (including participants, spectators, volunteers and staff) is expected. Wake County Senior Games Officials have the authority to disqualify and/or remove - from current and future WCSG programs - anyone who exhibits inappropriate behavior or a condition of medical concern. Falsifying information in the registration process will not be permitted and may result in disqualification from current and future Senior Games activities.
Participants may provide their own equipment provided the Event Manager determines it meets the official standards set forth by the state, with the exception of any games noted in the rules. Appropriate footwear is required at all activities except for swimming events. Contact the WCSG Events coordinator for more details.
-
All participants will receive a base medal with their registration. Gold, silver and bronze stars will be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each gender and age group for each event. A participant must compete and score in an activity to be eligible for an award and to qualify for NCSG State Finals.
Medals and shirts will be dispersed at the first event in which each participant is registered. No awards will be mailed.
-
All WCSG participants must check-in with event staff 30 minutes prior to each event’s start time at the assigned event location. A photo identification and verification of one’s birth date will be required at all event check-in sites, regardless of how many events you have participated in or how many years you have been competing.
Any participant not reporting to an event on time will be disqualified; all starting times are forfeit times.
There will be no switching of events on the day of competition and on-site registrations will not be accepted. Participating in an event that you are not pre-registered for will result in disqualification.
-
All participants and spectators must adhere to any safety, rules and/or protocols of any facility in which Wake County Senior Games events are held. This may include distancing/spacing, the use of face coverings, temperature checks or any other guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.
Spectating may be limited for some indoor events.
-
WCSG officials reserve the right to cancel any event due to insufficient registration and/or combine age groups if fewer than three people sign up in an age group.
In the event of inclement weather, please check your email confirmation information for contact info for each event.
All postponements, cancellations or changes will be announced on our website and an email will be sent for any event related changes.
